ROOTS Foundation uses oral traditions with a focus on spoken word poetry as a catalyst for social change. It does so by promoting safe spaces/ platforms for self-expressions and self-discovery through the development of raw talent that emanates from persons lived experiences and social realities.
ROOTS Foundation was awarded Organization of the Year 2020 by IBIS Management Associates through the Banks 4 Kids Funds
We are about creating pathways to success for vulnerable youth in at-risk circumstances (7-15) and Opportunity Youth (16-25).
ROOTS Foundation is committed to reviving the oral traditions, promoting youth leadership and encouraging community development.
Using oral traditions and youth mentorship, ROOTS Foundation aims at empowering our youth and communities in enhancing their creative talent and leadership capabilities.
Administering the best quality service of our SOS-via-STREAM (Save Our Students via Storytelling, Training, Reading, Entrepreneurship, Arts and Mentorship) pedagogical youth development model to our target population is our top priority and this is achieved through our “Village”, which comprises of a complement of professional youth and adults: Board of Directors, Staff, Project Implementation Unit, Consultants, Interns, Volunteers, Mentors, Mentees, Stakeholders, and Funding-Partners.
Our team/ “Villagers” are highly trained and knowledgeable to utilize the three 21st Century skills (Learning, Literacy & Life) necessary to align our SOS-via-STREAM (Save Our Students via Storytelling, Training, Reading, Entrepreneurship, Arts and Mentorship) pedagogical youth development model to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. This is then coupled by the application of our “Lived Experiences and Social Realities” which forms the “Foundation” for our “ROOTS” which yields project success and ultimately human satisfaction.
